About Me

I’m a corporate sales professional turned housewife.  I know, it seems that I’ve regressed to most, but I went from worrying about increasing my professional value to following my moral values.  I left a six-figure salary to save my marriage and followed my husband to a new place to live on $18,000 per year.  Don’t feel sorry for me! I’ve never been happier!
Writing is an old friend of mine. I  majored in journalism and began my career writing for newspapers and producing the nightly NBC news. However, my idealism left me for the lure of Procter & Gamble’s paycheck and security.  I worked for P&G for seven years before spending another two years at Colgate Palmolive. While the money was great, the stress on my family reached its height when my husband left me to hold down the home front while he pursued his dream of medical school in a new place.  We lived apart for one year while I clung to corporate security, before realizing that I was losing my family. I then sold the house on the golf course, gave back the company car, sold our personal car and all our possessions, left my job, and cut the cord of fear of the unknown to change my life, and my perspective, forever.
I’m very fulfilled in my new life.  In addition to writing, I volunteer at a Christian radio station mission and participate in various outreach projects. I am also training for an Ironman Triathlon.  And, I’m learning to budget again living just on school loans.
Since I believe all of life’s lessons and experience should be passed on, this website is my best conduit.  My goal is to help others in three main areas.
First, I will share my thoughts on building strong relationships.  Those who have torn down and rebuilt things have better knowledge of the workings inside.  Our marriage has been torn down to dusty rubble and rebuilt, and my passion is to help others who have heard the words, “I don’t love you anymore” to understand that this doesn’t have to be the end. If I can give one person hope, than I have succeeded. God was central in saving our marriage, and I will not be shy in using the Bible to help build up practical ideas in all of my writing.
Second, I want to help impact your health. While I’m training for a 140.6 mile Ironman triathlon, I will be passing on what I’ve learned to help you train smarter and fuel up better, whatever your sport. I am a vegan athlete, so eating nothing with a face is how I race! I will share my thoughts on training styles, equipment, techniques, and eating healthy vegan food on a shoestring budget. The vegan lifestyle also cured me of some very serious health issues.  I went from being overweight with a year-long fever and hearing the words “autoimmune disease” to never getting sick and becoming a triathlete.  Eating healthy food daily really is the only way to live life to the fullest, and I have great recipes so that I never feel deprived even without junk food. I will share my secrets to help anyone lose weight and embrace life again.
Finally, I want to help impact your finances.  Our cushy bank account and savings were lost when I left my job and moved away from everything I knew, and I am now in the process of rebuilding them. We are in the conserving season of life, which is something a lot of people can relate too. I will give practical advice on how to bring about breathing room in your budget, no matter how small.
Thank you for visiting. If one thing in the life of one person changes for the better, I will have succeeded. Let’s squeeze every drop out of this abundant life that we can together! Join me on the journey!

  1. Hello Sarah,
Just a quick message to ask if you would be interested in a ‘mutual’ following on twitter. I am currently following you now and am awaiting for your follow-back. (#FYI I do RT’s ‘anytime’ for all #Triathletes #Cyclists #UltraRunners #Marathoners #FitnessProfessionals who follow me on Twitter and have something important they want mentioned for support…)

All the very best for 2013 & beyond Sarah. Look forward to hearing from you…

  2. Hi Sarah,
I’m glad you liked my Fancy Oatmeal. Have you tried it yet? There are no faces in the recipe. 🙂 Also, good luck on your Ironman training and let me know if you need any help. I’ve been a triathlete for 12 years and had a very successful first IM in 2012. This year I’m not racing so I can volunteer at all the events.

Also, w.r.t. your post on harassment and the like, I too am on a mission to help improve the world. The best way to follow me, other than directly, is on Twitter @familyejournal or like my FB page, FamilyeJournal. Speaking of which, FamilyeJournal.com could be a great resource for you and your busy husband. Check it out and let me know what you think.

    Best regards,
